Write On The Lawn

The University Writing Center (UWC) hosted its first ever Write on the Lawn event last month, turning a sunny afternoon into a lively space for conversation, collaboration, and community. The event was designed to facilitate a small-scale version of our writing consultations, in which students were invited to spend 15 minutes or less chatting with Writing Center consultants about any of their writing assignments at any stage of their writing process.

This semester’s Write on the Lawn had an impressive turnout; Consultants held 40 mini sessions and connected with nearly 200 students over the course of the event. From brainstorming essay ideas to refining final drafts, students used these quick conversations to get focused feedback and discover what a Writing Center session can offer. The event also allowed students that stopped by between classes to grab snacks, pick up Writing Center swag, and ask questions about the UWC that they may have had.

Write on the Lawn was a hit with the consultants as well, and we’re already planning to bring it back this spring. We hope even more writers will join us next semester. For more information, visit the University Writing Center.
