Spring 2026 Graduate Writing Support
We know that writing as a graduate student requires a specific set of skills. The UWC offers a series of programs to support graduate writing. If you don’t see what you need below, please reach out to us at onlinewriting@ecu.edu.
GradWAG
Wednesdays 1-3, MS Teams
The Graduate Writing Accountability Group (WAG) is a small group of 4-9 graduate students who meet once a week to write, set goals, and achieve them by establishing productive writing habits, sharing with others, and holding one another accountable.
If interested in joining, please complete the Spring 2026 Grad WAG interest form. For additional information, please email onlinewriting@ecu.edu.
Jump Starting the Dissertation
Runs Jan 26-March 23, MS Teams, Time TBA
Jump Starting the Dissertation is an 8-week program that helps PhD Candidates write Chapters 1 and 2 of their dissertation and begin to draft Chapter 3. If you have recently defended your prospectus, this is the program for you! We will meet virtually for 2-hours each week. Sessions begin with mini-lessons around organizing your research, drafting your literature review, asking your committee for feedback, and writing strategies. Then, the sessions will shift into focused-writing time. Each weekly session will end with goal setting. Together, we will help each other meet our writing goals and make progress on your dissertation.
Interested? Proceed to the Jump Starting the Dissertation program registration.
Almost Ph(inishe)D
Runs Jan 26-March 23, MS Teams, Time TBA
Almost Ph(inishe)D is an 8-week program that helps PhD Candidates write Chapters 4 and 5 of their dissertation and begin to revise their dissertation for defense. If you have drafts of Chapters 1-3 already and are looking to defend this Spring or Summer, this is the program for you! We will meet virtually for 2-hours each week. Sessions begin with mini-lessons around communicating your results, writing the so what, creating revising plans, and editing and formatting your dissertation. Then, the sessions will shift into focused-writing time. Each weekly session will end with goal setting. Together, we will help each other work toward your dissertation defense.
Interested? Proceed to the Almost Ph(inishe)D program registration.
Dissertation Boot Camp
(in collaboration with Graduate School and Libraries)
Jan 22 and 23, 2026, 8:30am-3:30pm, MS Teams
Dissertation Boot Camp is designed to give students 3-4 hours of focused writing time per day. Focused writing time means sitting in front of your laptop working on pages of your document, researching sources to use, making figures or tables, or organizing references. You will want to be in a quiet, supportive location that will help you make progress on your dissertation. It is not a workshop with group activities or lots of interaction, although there is some!
Interested? Proceed to the Dissertation Boot Camp program registration.
