Writing Consultations

We offer support at any stage of the writing process, on any type of writing, through 45-minute face-to-face and online appointments with undergraduate and graduate writing consultants. Though we offer support for developing your text, we do not offer proofreading or editing services; we are, however, excited to foster an engaging learning experience.

General FAQ

How do I make an appointment?

Visit MyWCOnline to make an appointment. Be sure to select the appropriate schedule (Joyner, OWL/DE, Laupus). White appointment boxes are open appointment times. This guide will walk you through the process of making an appointment.

How can I make the most out of my appointment?

In addition to your writing, we encourage you to attach the assignment instructions, rubric, and any feedback that you’ve received from your instructor. We also recommend that you leave detailed notes in the appointment form about the specific feedback that you’re looking for and the areas you’d like to focus on. These materials will help consultants better understand your assignment and know where to focus.

I have questions. How can I get in contact with someone?

If you call and no one answers, please leave us a voicemail. Voicemail is monitored even when we’re off campus, and someone will return your call. You can also email us at onlinewriting@ecu.edu. Our consultants and administrative staff regularly check this account during open hours, so you should receive a prompt response.

My professor is requiring me to use the UWC? How will they know I came?

When you make your appointment, there’s a question asking if you want a copy of the report sent to your professor. Click ‘yes,’ and we will send them the documentation.

I made an appointment, but now I can’t make it. What do I do?

There are a few ways to cancel your appointment. Log into WCOnline, open your appointment, and click on the red cancel appointment button at the bottom. Or, you can email or call (leave a voicemail), and we will cancel it for you.
