WAC: An Introduction
So you’ve been assigned to teach a Writing Intensive (WI) course in your department, but you’re not sure what that means exactly? Or perhaps you’ve included writing in your courses for years but are unsure what’s expected of a WI course at ECU? Well, this workshop is designed to walk you through some of the key features of the WI courses that help make up the Writing Across the Curriculum program at ECU.
In this Canvas-based workshop, you will find answers to many of your questions about what’s expected of you as a teacher of a WI course. As part of that, you will also leave with ideas from current research on teaching writing across disciplinary contexts, as well as some suggestions on “what’s next” as you work to improve student learning in your WI courses.
Key take-aways from this workshop:
- What is Writing Across the Curriculum? What is Writing Intensive?
- How can the University Writing Center support you and your students?
Because this workshop is self-paced, you can sign up anytime by joining the following Canvas course: https://ecu.instructure.com/enroll/LH39EH
As always, if you have any questions about the University Writing Program or you need specific help with some aspect of teaching or assessing writing in your course, reach out to Dr. Kerri Flinchbaugh (flinchbaughk@ecu.edu), assistant director of the University Writing Program.
